Recipe of Hoong Ling
A professional emcee since 1993 in school, Hoong Ling has the voice and command in both Malay and English. She formerly hosted Selamat Pagi Malaysia (Good Morning Malaysia) talk show live on RTM1. She currently emcees for product launches, corporate events, seminars, royal functions, ministerial events and frequently invited as moderator and speaker at international conferences. She was also a radio deejay on DurianFM.com every Wednesday and an anchor host for inspire.fm.
Hoong Ling is an advocate for social causes including youth development, women’s rights, crime prevention and particularly organ donation. She shocked her family and friends when she donated part of her liver to a stranger in year 2009, having championed organ donation since 13 years old. Her book chronicles her journey in giving her liver entitled “I Don’t Know You but Let Me Save You” and its Chinese translation, “我把肝脏给了一位陌生人”, has encouraged many people pledge their organs. She is now a Member in the Public Awareness Action Committee for Organ and Tissue Donation under the Malaysia Ministry of Health and has been sharing her experience to tens of thousands of people as far as Philippines and Singapore. In year 2013, Hoong Ling was appointed the National Organ Donation Ambassador.
She contributed actively in youth organizations including St. John Ambulance of Malaysia (also helped author parts of the 100th Year Anniversary of SJAM book), Lions Club, Yayasan Budi Penyayang, Persatuan Pemuda Negara, CyberCare Youth Organization, Welfare and Community Council in Pandan, Neighbourhood Watch in Pandan Perdana, Neighbourhood Watch in Sea Park PJ and even founded a Neighbourhood Watch in Pandan Jaya to curb crime and organised various dialogues with the police.
Hoong Ling was handpicked to be the Youth Ambassador on board the Ship for Southeast Asian Youth Programme 2003, also participated in the Youth Development Transformation Lab and chosen to present the Youth Lab findings at the Youth Development Cabinet Committee. She held positions as Director of CyberCare and Member in the National Consultative Youth Council.
She is also a multi-award winner – Selangor Youth Award 2006 (Volunteerism), Great Woman of Our Time Award 2008 (Education and Public Services), Lions Club International 308-B1 District Governor’s Distinguished Service Award 2009 and her most memorable National Youth Premier Award 2011 which was presented by the Right Honourable Prime Minister of Malaysia.
In year 2013, during the fiercest General Elections in Malaysia, she stood as the Petaling Jaya Utara Parliament candidate, against the incumbent Tony Pua of DAP.
Hoong Ling is also involved in short film production as a producer with 126 Creative. Unfulfilled Donation, the first short film she produced, won second runner up at an organ donation video contest and the subsequent short film Pregnation went on to bag four international awards from China.
