If I ask people to donate money, some may say they have forgotten to bring their money or that they have no money. If I ask people to donate their eyes, will they say they have forgotten to bring their eyes, or that they have no eyes?
Modern medical technology has made it possible for organ transplants which have saved many lives and helped many people. However, hundreds are dying in Malaysia waiting for donor organs.
Organ donation has not been receiving as much attention as blood donation. People are more willing to donate blood today than they were a few years ago. However, not many people donate their organs after death. Some have not even heard of such thing.
Those who believe in reincarnation fear they might not be reincarnated if they donate their organs. Others believe they won’t be able to rest in peace if parts of their body are missing.
On the other hand there are those who are suffering and spending a lot of money on things like dialysis treatments (for failing kidneys) because they cannot have kidney transplants.
We cannot afford to have people dying everyday just because of our selfishness and a tidak apa attitude.
I hope more organ donors will come forward, so that we can put an end to the suffering of those in need of organ transplants.
